When you get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays it is so easy to become overwhelmed and depressed. Then someone does something nice for you and it changes everything- life is good again and you remember why you've been trying so hard. Whether it’s the nice person at the store who let you get in line first instead of bumping you out of the way, the extra something in a holiday package, or cookies dropped off at your doorstep- it matters. Each small act makes an impact on our hearts.
One of my wishes is to be able to pass on all these kind favors to others. How do you express love and kindness for others during the holiday season without adding extra stress upon yourself? How can you be someone’s answer?
Give a Holiday Greeting
It’s amazing how many people don’t say holiday greetings so when you do it catches people off guard and makes them smile. Try it- it’s the one time of the year you can.
Send an online message to someone just saying thanks
I can’t tell you how much it means to me when you write. It means even more to those who are closest to us and it doesn't take very much time at all. Send a text, email, or even one of those great online greeting cards. Take a second and just say Thanks.
Be a Courteous Driver
Let the person in or at least not be angry when they cut you off. We all hate traffic. We all have somewhere to go. We all could use a little more patience when it comes to driving on the road. Wait a second before you hit the horn or start to yell.
Give a hug
My daughter is one of the most loveable people you will ever know. She is constantly giving hugs and kisses and expressing her love for others. Recently, she gave a great big hug to one of the sisters in our ward that has been going through a rough time. Wow! What difference that made. Who can you hug?
Do the dishes or take out the trash
Look around where you live and do whatever it is that someone else always does even though they hate it. Get to it first- even if they don’t notice, you just gave them one less thing to do and little bit more time.
Go Phone Caroling
Call your loved ones far away and surprise them with a song. The best part about this is you can even leave a message if they aren't home.
Give a real compliment
How good does it feels when someone says, “Wow! You look so beautiful today!”? Great, right? Don’t give a compliment to just give a compliment but when you see someone who deserves one be sure you take the minute to tell them. So often we let these moments slip by.
Say I love you
I’m sure they know it but take a minute to just look that someone in the eye and tell them- your spouse, your kids, your parents, a friend. Just tell them.
Share your Wish for someone else
When you tweet or Instagram your wish with #WishesDelivered UPS will donate $1 to charity from now until December 31. What a simple way to help someone else. Don’t tweet or Instagram? Go to the #WishesDelivered site and share your wish there.
As you answer someone else’s wish, you’ll most likely be answering one of your own- to really feel the spirit this holiday season. Whose wish will you answer? What is your wish for someone? Let me know in the comments!
