I received a free poster from Modify Ink, however, my opinions are entirely my own. See our full disclosure here.
In a world where Satan is constantly attacking, how are you protecting your family and home? Throughout the scriptures you can find references to what our homes need to become. In D&C 88:119 it says,
Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God;
How are you going about to create such a home? How are you strengthening your family daily? Have you realized how much your decor can help fortify your family against Satan's attacks?
This became extremely evident to me one day when I decided to take down all the Bright Ideas posters on the wall next to our stairwell. They were getting torn and tattered and it was time for a change. The reactions I received from my children startled me! I knew that sometimes they had looked at them but I certainly didn't realize how much of an impact they had made until my daughter was quoting line for line all her favorite ones and begging me to put them all back up!.
We know we are influenced by the visuals around us so how can you make the best use of your space to create the atmosphere you want in your home? Take a look around each room in your home and ask yourself:
- What is the specific purpose for this room?
- What is the message that I want to be sending to my family?
- Is there a gospel truth that I want to reinforce through my design?
A lot of us are already reinforcing the principle that family is important and can be forever by the photos we hang of our families and the temples. What other messages are you sending? One of the things that I keep wanting to emphasize to my children is that it is often the small acts of our daily lives that make the biggest difference. We may not make perfect choices each time but as long as we keep trying, we are headed for greatness (Alma 37:6)
I have found some things that have helped me tie that theme in, however, I was still missing something. I ended up at Modify Ink where I was able to create a memorable and purposeful piece of art to help reinforce that message. With several different artists, designs, and sayings, you're sure to find something perfect for your home too.
The neatest thing about Modify Ink is that you can pick from all their designs THEN make it your very own. You can order the print as is, one of the variations of the print, OR change it yourself to reflect your personality and your vision. It is SO MUCH FUN to customize your own print! With Modify Ink you can change the colors and patterns to tie your artwork in perfectly to your home. Each piece you create will be uniquely yours because you personalized it. How neat is that?!
Below is the picture that I came across for our home. I wasn't thrilled with the colors but I loved the quote. My husband and I then spent the next few minutes brightening up the colors and making it more us. Since it is in the kitchen, we wanted bold, vibrant colors. Our finished product is on the right. What a difference customizing it made!
Every month Modify Ink also has a free digital download that you can customize. April's is one of our favorite songs so I had to make another one! I'm going to print it out and use it as part of my husband's birthday present or for Father's Day.
I didn't need to change this one too much but even the small changes make a big difference. You can make your own great artwork by heading over to Modify Ink and trying a print yourself for 30% off! Hurry though, this discount is only good through Saturday! Be warned, you could spend forever playing around with all the colors if you don't have a clear vision of what you want. So before you start, think about where it will go, what colors you want to tie in, how big you'll need it, and the statement you are trying to make.
