For Come, Follow Me Alma 39-42 “The Great Plan of Happiness” (July 27- August 2)

Alma is giving counsel to his son, Corianton in these chapters. Corianton has been on a mission to the Zoramites with his father, Alma. Unfortunately, Corianton has broken the law of chastity. Alma reminds him of the commandments as well as the redemption possible through the Atonement of Jesus Christ (Corianton does repent and returns to labor- see Alma 49:30). Here are some key principles you can review this week:

  • Sexual sin is an abomination in the sight of the Lord (Alma 39)

  • We should be good examples (Alma 39:1, 10-11)

  • We can repent when we sin (Alma 39:9-13)

  • We can faithfully seek answers to our gospel questions (Alma 40)

  • Resurrection is the restoration of the spirit with the body in its proper and perfect frame. We will be resurrected and judged (Alma 40-41)

  • After death, all people enter the spirit world (Alma 40:6-15, 21)

  • Wickedness is never happiness (Alma 41, especially verse 10)

  • The Atonement of Jesus Christ makes salvation possible (Alma 42)
