In Come Follow Me Hebrews 1-6 Jesus Christ, "the Author of Eternal Salvation" (November 4-10), Paul encourages the Saints not to repeat the mistakes of the Israelites during the Exodus. They had hardened their hearts because of unbelief. In these chapters we learn more about Jesus Christ and how to have a firm testimony.

Hebrews 1-5
In chapter 1 of Hebrews, it tells us that Jesus is in the “express image” of Heavenly Father. Then we learn more about Jesus Christ and therefore our Father in Heaven.

Questions to Ponder
What do you know about Heavenly Father because you have come to know Jesus Christ?
In what ways would you like to be in the “express image” of Heavenly Father?
What things do we learn about Jesus Christ in these five chapters? How does this give you further insights into our Father in Heaven as well?
What are some of your attributes and features? Who did you get those from? In what ways are you Christlike and therefore like your Heavenly Father?
How can you better come to know Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father?
In what ways has coming to know Jesus Christ brought you closer to God?
How can learning more about who you look like and what attributes you have bring you closer to God?
Teaching Activities
Make self portraits! Glue, paint, or draw yourselves using my portrait template and see who you look like your family (including ancestors). Then on the back of your portrait, write down some of the attributes you have (or pass them around and have everyone write a word on the back of yours). Who else in your family has that attribute? Bring it back to Hebrews and how we know Jesus Christ is the “express image” of Heavenly Father (see Hebrews 1:3) in more ways than one. Compare back to Jesus Christ being in the image of God the Father.
Study some of the names, roles, and attributes of Jesus Christ and what that tells us about Heavenly Father too. Print out my names of Christ advent. Open one or two flaps a day and discuss what that name or attribute tells us about Them. How can we be like Them?
Make a list of some of the things you know about Jesus Christ. What do you admire about Him? How do you want to be like Him? How does your list tell you more about your Father in Heaven? How else can you come to know Him more?
Hebrews 1:2-10; 2:8-18; 4:12-16; 5:7-8
Jesus Christ suffered for my sins, troubles, and pains so that He can understand me and help me perfectly. These verses also can help us strengthen our testimony of Jesus Christ.

Questions to Ponder
What are some of the struggles you are dealing with right now? How can Jesus Christ help you?
How does knowing that Christ understands what you are going through perfectly help you through the hard times?
Because Jesus Christ understands, how can He help you?
In what ways can you be open to help from God during your struggles?
Teaching Activities
Write down the struggles you are dealing with right now using my chart. Then go through the scriptures (use the Topical Guide, these verses in Hebrews, and the previous Come, Follow Me lessons) and find scriptures that show that Jesus Christ understands. How did He deal with something similar? How can Jesus help you because He does know what you are going through?
Hang up several images of Jesus Christ. You can get pictures from your gospel art kit, your Come, Follow Me manual, or at ChurchofJesusChrist.org. Hang up at least one for every person in your group. Then take turns picking a picture and sharing your testimony using that image as a prompt.
Hebrews 2:1-4
These verses remind us that we need to hold firmly to the gospel of Jesus Christ at all times.

Questions to Ponder
What are you doing to constantly build your testimony?
Why do you feel it is dangerous to let your testimony sit after building it once?
How can you hold firmly to the gospel of Jesus Christ?
What did you do today to build your testimony and hold firmly to the iron rod?
What are some truths that help you hold firmly?
Teaching Activities
Make some slime! There are a ton of slime recipes on Pinterest (follow me while you are there). As you play with it, notice how it will slip through your fingers if you simply hold it. How is this like our testimonies? Why is it important to keep it moving? What might that represent?
Sing “How Firm a Foundation” Hymn #85 or listen to The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square sing it. How can we have firm testimonies of the Lord?
Compare holding firmly to the gospel to holding on to the iron rod as in 1 Nephi 8. What were the other ways people hold onto the rod? How do we keep our grasp firm? You can sing Hymn #274, “The Iron Rod” as well.
Additional Study Helps
Here’s a few more resources to use as you study more verses in Hebrews:
Make your own paper captain hats as you discuss Hebrews 2:9-10.
Try a sponge object lesson as you discuss hard hearts and Hebrews 3:7-4:11.
The fifth Article of Faith goes great with Hebrews 5:1-5. There are two activities from The Friend that you can use: Article of Faith 5 page and this other activity page.
