Free Gospel Stitching Cards for Latter-day Saints

These paper stitching cards are printed with a pattern of dots that show you where to punch and stitch. The thread becomes the design, and you can keep it as simple as connecting the dots or add your own stitches and details.

We’re starting with four free designs:

• Rejoice in Christ - mountains, pine trees, and a rising sun. “Rejoice in Christ” is the 2027 youth theme and the theme for the Salt Lake Temple open house.

• Hear Him - a vintage-style pennant that's a natural fit for General Conference.

• Walk in the Light - a nod to walking with the Savior.

• Be Still & Know - a pumpkin to remind us what stillness can be.

Use them during General Conference, for a youth or Primary activity, on a Sunday afternoon, at a ministering get-together, or just because you want to make one.

How to Make the Gospel Stitching Cards

You don't need much: print the cards on cardstock, grab some embroidery floss or thread, and find a needle.

1. Print the cards.
   A sturdy cardstock works better than regular printer paper because it can handle the pulling and tugging of the thread.

2. Punch the holes.
   We prefer to punch all of the marked dots before we start stitching. It just makes it easier as you go. Use a large sharp needle, push pin, awl, or another small pointed tool. Be careful not to hurt yourself though! You can put a piece of cardboard, cork, or something else underneath your card while punching so you don't poke yourself or accidentally add a Gospel Stitching design to your kitchen table.

   Note: You can skip the pre-punching if you're using a nice sharp needle. Pre-punching it does make stitching easier.

3. Choose your thread.
   Use embroidery floss in one color or pull out the whole box and go wild. We didn’t define any colors for our cards so you can go as crazy or simple as you wish.

4. Start stitching.
   Tie a knot on one end of your thread and get going! Use the dots as your guide, but don't feel like you have to stitch every card exactly the same way. The templates give you the basic structure. What happens between those holes is up to you. If you’ve never stitched before, here’s a video that will teach you three basic ones.

Make the Designs Your Own

This might be my favorite part. You can simply connect the holes and call it good, or experiment with different ways of filling in the designs.

On our Be Still & Know pumpkin, we added extra horizontal stitches to one section of the pumpkin. On the Rejoice in Christ mountains, we used vertical stitches between shared holes to fill in the snowy peaks a little more.

Try crossing threads. Fill in a section. Leave another section simple. Add a different stitch around an edge. Use several colors where we used one.

There isn't one right finished version.

In fact, give the same card to six people and you may end up with six completely different designs. That's part of the fun.

Don't Stop at Stitching Cards

You can stitch the cards and enjoy them exactly as they are, but they can also become part of another project.

• Turn one into a greeting card. Stitch the design, trim it down if needed, and attach it to the front of folded cardstock. The finished card could make a sweet ministering note, birthday card, thank-you card, or just-because message.

• Add one to a notebook. Stitch a design and attach it to the front of an inexpensive notebook or journal. This could be especially fun for a youth activity. Everyone starts with the same basic supplies but goes home with a notebook that looks completely different.

• Use them as gift tags. Turn the finished stitching into a tag for a ministering gift, youth handout, or Christmas package.

• Make paper-bag lanterns. Place the printed template over a flattened paper bag and use a large needle or push pin to punch the pattern through both layers. Remove the template, open the bag, and put a battery-operated LED tea light inside. The punched holes become the design when the light shines through. Skip real candles entirely with paper bags.

These are intentionally pretty low-key. You don't need to build an entire activity around them unless you want to.

Set them out during General Conference for anyone who listens better when their hands are occupied. Bring them to a youth activity and put out a pile of embroidery floss. Use them for a ministering get-together where you want something to work on while everyone visits. Pull them out on a Sunday evening with your family.

They could also work for Relief Society activities, Activity Days, girls camp downtime, family reunions, grandparents and grandkids, or simply one person looking for a quiet Sunday project.

The Hear Him card is an easy fit for General Conference. And with Rejoice in Christ being the 2027 youth theme, that design can keep coming back out all year long.

No elaborate craft night required. Print, punch, grab some thread, and see where the stitches take you.
