Free Salt Lake Temple Activity: 1890s Trivia Printables

Who’s looking forward to the Salt Lake Temple Open House?

It’s such an exciting time to step back into the early days of the Church and honor what was built in 1893 while also celebrating the growth of the Church today. Plus it’s a great time to talk more about temples and covenants with your family or church group.

We put together three fun printable trivia games you can use at home or at your next church activity night to help you celebrate.

Save it for later, pin it now

What’s Included

This 1890s trivia set comes with three printable games:

  • 1890s Trivia – a mix of everyday life, big moments, and a few surprises

  • Finish the 1890s Lyric – a fun way to bring in music from the time

  • Price Check: 1890s Edition – this one always gets people talking

They’re simple to print and easy to use whether you’re at home or with a group. You can find the button to download all three toward the bottom of this post.

Using It for a Family Night

Play all three straight through for a game night, or pause here and there and let the conversation go a little deeper.

A few things you could ask along the way:

  • What stands out to you about life in 1893?

  • What feels really different from today?

  • What do you think mattered just as much then as it does now?

It’s interesting to think about what the people building the Salt Lake Temple were experiencing at the time and what hasn’t changed. Use it as an opportunity to share your testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ too.

If you want to extend it, look up a few modern comparisons together like the price of eggs and see how things stack up today. You can even talk a little about budgeting here.

Youth Activity Fun

Add these printables to another activity you are already doing about the temple or use it for a whole activity night. Try this idea:

  • Break into small groups

  • Give each group one printable section

  • Have them answer and discuss

Then invite each group to create their own 2026 version of the game.

  • What would today’s questions be?

  • What would surprise people 100 years from now?

  • What do we have now that we take for granted?

Share your questions with each other and play again.

Finish by tying it back:

  • “Life is a lot more convenient now than it was in 1893. Where does the temple fit into your life right now and where do you want it to fit in the future?”

  • “Why do you think temples are still just as important today?”

No long lesson needed. They’ll do the thinking for you.

Being able to walk through a temple before it’s dedicated or in this case, rededicated gives people a chance to see it, feel it, and understand it a little better especially for those who haven’t been inside before. What questions does your youth group have about the temple or what questions have their friends asked them? When is your next youth temple trip? What can you do to make your next experience in the temple a little more intentional and meaningful?

Talking About Temples and Covenants

Obviously, our goal is to have a little fun but also point people back to the house of the Lord. Whether at home or at church, pick something about the temple to talk about.

You might focus on:

  • The temple as a place to draw closer to Jesus Christ

  • The covenants we make and why they matter

  • The way temples connect families

  • The peace that comes from being there

There are two great resources to help you share and learn more about temples:

  • Temple Overview- this is the page with all sorts of resources: list of the temples, latest events, ordinances performed, what the inside of a temple looks like, how to prepare, etc.

  • Keep it simple and head to the Topics and Questions section of the Gospel Library app to read about what temples are and why they matter.

As you look forward to the Salt Lake Temple open house, this is a fun way to step back into 1893 and connect it to today.

Play the games, see what stands out, and let the conversations happen.
