Turn a General Conference talk into a word search and watch your comprehension skyrocket! Reviewing General Conference messages goes beyond the simply reading them over and over again. Creating a word search is a fun, hands-on way to review key themes while keeping your brain engaged. It’s study time... with a twist!
Save it for later, pin it now!
By picking out important words from a General Conference talk and turning them into a puzzle, you'll lock in those insights and principles without even realizing it. Sure, you could use an auto-generator, but there's something about crafting the puzzle yourself that really locks in those keywords and phrases. Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to sneak in secret phrases for your friends to find!
Start by reading through your talk and reviewing your notes. As key themes, repeated words, and important concepts pop out, jot them down in the blank box on our template. These are the words you will add to your puzzle. Aim for about 10-20 words- enough to be fun but not overwhelming. The longest word or phrase you can squeeze in is 20 letters.
Add your words to the puzzle then take a photo or copy it so you have an answer key. Then add random letters or sneaky hidden phrases. Pay attention to how you fill it in so you don’t accidentally create the same words twice!
Now the fun part: swap puzzles with family or friends, during a family home evening, or a church activity. You’ll not only test each other’s word-searching skills, but you’ll review two talks in two ways- creating and seeking. It’s the ultimate interactive General Conference study hack!
We’ve included two word search templates to help you get started. Graph paper also works well but be sure to highlight the borders of your search box before you start or you might end up with a massive puzzle. You can also find the word search we created above from keywords found in President Russell M. Nelson’s October 2024 General Conference talk, “The Lord Jesus Christ Will Come Again” to use as an example. Happy reviewing!
