Help save the World's Records by hosting your own Indexing Party! From October 20–22, FamilySearch International will sponsor the third annual “Worldwide Indexing Event,” bringing 72,000 people from around the globe together online during a 72-hour event to save the world’s records by making them searchable to the public.
You can help by indexing names and encouraging others to do the same through hosting your own Indexing Party.
Here's what you need to do:
1. Find a location
Ideally, if you have a large group of people meet in a nearby Family History Center. You'll have access to multiple computers as well as help if you need it. If there isn't one nearby consider the public library. Don't need a lot of computers? Your house is perfect! All you really need is a computer and internet connection.
2. Invite Others
October 20–22, you and your friends can join over 72,000 teammates for 72 hours as you index as few or as many names as you want. Join the worldwide team at https://familysearch.org/worldsrecords and encourage your friends to do the same.
FamilySearch International is the largest genealogy organization in the world. It is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. FamilySearch and its predecessors have been actively gathering, preserving, and sharing genealogical records worldwide for over 100 years. Patrons may access FamilySearch services and resources free online at FamilySearch.org or through over 4,921 family history centers in 129 countries.
3. Prepare the Goodie Bags
Whether you'll be indexing with your family or the whole block, prepare some goodie bags to enjoy after you've indexed a batch of names. Use my free printables to include the following in your bags:
- Family Tree Branches (pretzel sticks)
- Family Kisses (the chocolate kind)
- Family History print to keep you inspired all year
- Family History Discussion Questions for your dinner time enjoyment
- Thank You tag
Please note, you will be downloading a zip file. For more info about zip files, please see the FAQs.
4. Index and Share!
Participate by downloading the FamilySearch software and complete as many names as you would like. While you're at it, take a photo of your group and share it online with the hashtag #theworldsrecords and celebrate with others. Remember to pass out your goodie bags at the end!
