We all love to read Luke 2 as we ponder and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ but sometimes we stop at verse 20 when really there are two more important people who witnessed of Christ’s birth. Talk about some of the witnesses of Christ’s birth with this fun activity.

Save it for later, pin it now!

Cut out each oval that represents a group of people or a person. As you read Luke 2:8-38 and Matthew 2:1-12, stop when you hear about one of the witnesses. Grab the oval cut out and using a string, mark where they would be on the map. Obviously, the map isn’t completely accurate but it gives a good overall picture of where these events took place.

After you have used all the ovals, talk about how each of these people was a witness of Christ’s birth. Consider these questions:

  • Why do you think God chose some of these people to be a witness?

  • What might have their witness done for themselves and for others?

  • What do you appreciate about their experience?

  • Which witness would you like to be?

You may also want to talk about the witnesses of those in the Book of Mormon. See 1 Nephi 11:13-23 and 3 Nephi 1:5-21. Even though these people didn’t see Christ in person at the time of His birth, they were still witnesses of it.

In what ways are you a witness of Christ’s birth? This is a great opportunity to review, once again, why we celebrate Christmas and have all the traditions that we do. Share your own testimony of Christ’s birth and resurrection.

You can also print out this fun birth story sheet. Have your children draw or take notes as you read through the first part of Luke 2. Take some time afterward to talk about their birth stories. What similarities might they have with Christ’s birth story? Why do we tell these birth stories? What makes it important to you?

Need something simpler? Try a nativity sticker set as you discuss Christ's birth story then baby stickers as you discuss your child's birth story. Stickers are always fun!
