In Helaman Chapter 5, Helaman wants his sons to remember critical teachings that will help them through the trials of life. What is his reminder in verse 12? Why is this important to you?
What are some specific examples of how the adversary is increasing his attacks on our families?
After months of using the Come, Follow Me program, what have you experienced in your family?
How has your family scripture study changed with Come, Follow Me?
How is using Come, Follow Me like the children of Israel marking the side posts of their doors?
How are you making Church six days longer, not one hour shorter?
How do you feel attacks of the adversary are increasing exponentially while at the same time the influence of the adversary is decreasing in your life?
A counterstrategy is defined as a plan of action designed to render something ineffective. Proactive is defined as making things happen instead of waiting for them to happen to you. How is the Come, Follow Me program a counterstrategy and proactive plan?
What is one thing you can do as a family during the next month that can strengthen your foundation using Come, Follow Me?
Discussion Ideas
Draw a picture of a house on the board then add lots of fiery darts aimed at the house all around. Ask your class what these fiery darts might represent. Then ask your class how they have seen using Come, Follow Me in their families has helped shield them from these attacks.
Share some ways families and individuals can easily (meaning not too much stress but obviously some work) incorporate Come, Follow Me into their homes. You can start with a few ideas yourself (such as use the seminary and institute manuals to gain further insights) then have your class share. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about consistently trying so we make it a habit in our homes. It’s about doing something instead of nothing.
Before class, give a few people markers and ask them to write one word on the board that describes how they feel about Come, Follow Me (write the question on the board so it’s easy to remember). When they are done, ask them to hand the marker to someone else to do the same and so on. Then review some of the answers- good and bad and discuss and even problem solve them or share testimonies of them.
Bring a hammer, drill, and some other easy to carry tools for a visual. What are some of the first things you must do before you can remodel your home? What are some of the first things we need to do as we consider continuing remodeling our home into the gospel centered place we know it can be? What are some improvements you want to make but don’t know how? Discuss them, brainstorm together.
