Questions to Ponder

What does it mean to trust in the Lord? According to Proverbs 3:5-6, how do we acknowledge the Lord in all things?
How do we find comfort in knowing we can put our trust in the Lord?
What happens when we get caught up in worrying about the “wrong” things?
How are we “bound” and “captured” in our sins in this life?
What comes to mind when you hear the terms: “spirit prison”, “bound”, “captives”, “cast out into outer darkness” and “weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth”?
What are many ways you and I on earth help those who are converted in the Spirit World? Why do you want to?
How does our participation in temple work and gathering Israel, hasten the work in the Spirit World?
What experiences have you had while gathering and searching to complete family names and ordinances for the dead?
What work of conversion continues on the other side of the veil and how can we help the living and the dead to repent and convert?
Why has President Oaks warned us not to speculate about the Spirit World?
Discussion Ideas
President Oaks give an example of worrying about the wrong things. How do we sometimes distract ourselves from worrying about the wrong things? You can demonstrate this by giving a simple riddle at the beginning of class such as the School Bus Driver Riddle. The whole point of the riddle is to distract you from the obvious answer. How can we clear our minds from the distracting questions and worry more about the ones that really matter?
What do we know about the Spirit World? Use the references and teachings President Oaks shared, the Guide to the Scriptures, etc. and study them together or in groups. Make a list on the board of what you learn. If we know these things, then what? Why does it matter if we know these things? We know because it is something we should act on so how will you act now that you know what you know? Keep the majority of the time focused on the action portion. You can also point out that we don’t know everything as did President Oaks and therefore we should trust that the Lord knows what He is doing because He does.
Here are a few videos you could watch and discuss in addition to President Oaks’s talk: The Promised Blessing of Family History (about 3 1/2 minutes), Redeeming the Dead Redeemed Me (about 5 minutes), and It Was Worth the Wait (about 2 minutes).
