After King Benjamin delivers the message from the angel, the people fell to the earth and prayed for redemption. In this state of humility, King Benjamin concludes his sermon by teaching them how to retain a remission of sins and live as “children of Christ” (see Mosiah 5:7).
Through Christ, we receive a remission of our sins (Mosiah 4)
We should love one another, give to the poor. (Mosiah 4:13-26)
We can experience a mighty change of heart (Mosiah 5:1-7)
We take upon ourselves the name of Christ as we make covenants (Mosiah 5:5-15)

We Are All Beggars- Give to the Poor and Needy (Mosiah 4:12-26)
There are all sorts of great charities you can give to by planning at home or volunteering at their locations. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Volunteer or donate to the Ronald McDonald House which helps keep families together and near medical care. You can collect pop tops, donate toys, or go in to cook a meal. Make a jar this week to place all your pop tops in. We don’t drink a lot of soda but we collect the tabs when we are at parties, etc. and bring them home for our jar. Even little things can make a difference.
Make a Jared Box for young patients in the Emergency Room, Cancer Care Centers, Surgical Centers, etc. These are toy-filled Tupperware containers that can definitely cheer others up. You may not be able to donate them to hospitals right now but you can make them and use them as you see needs.
Sew some Inspirational Hearts for preemies. The mother wears the heart against her skins so it absorbs her scent. Then they can place the heart with the baby when they can’t be together.
Collect old crayons and donate them to The Crayon Initiative. They melt them down and make new ones then donate the crayons to art programs in children’s hospitals across the United States. Put a box on your front steps and encourage your neighbors to bring all their broken crayons too.
Donate you used eyeglasses to those in need. Somebody can use those old frames!
Donate to one of many philanthropies by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The New Era from March 2016 has a great activity to help you think about ways you can help care for the poor. Give out a strip to each person in your group then invite them to make their own type of scenario. Share with each other and encourage everyone to do one idea this week. You may want to hang all the answers on your fridge or another prominent place to remember.
Like to color? Here’s a coloring page focused on donating food. Color it then organize your own food donation. Even if you can’t donate food right now, there are lots of ways you can help your local food bank. Ours even accepts some expired food, cardboard, monetary donations, etc.
How else can you help those in your area right now? Staying at home to prevent further spread of illness is one way. How else can you serve while at home? What are some things you can do for your neighborhood?
You may also want to talk about fasting and fast offerings. Explain how we go hungry to help others who are hungry. Share what happens to our fast offerings each month and how you decide how much to give each time. You can refer to the Gospel Topics for more information.
Write down some of the spiritual and temporal needs a person needs. Pick one need and brainstorm ways you can help someone that doesn’t have that.
Go to the footnotes in Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s talk, “Are We Not All Beggars?” and have each person pick a scripture to ponder. Then take turns sharing what you learn from that passage and an idea of how we can be better about helping those around us.
Design a campaign ad to describe Mosiah 4:27. Share them with your family and hang them up in your home this week as you ponder what it means.
Experiencing a Mighty Change in Heart (Mosiah 5:1-7)
Show how our hearts can change using my fun paper folding heart activity. For detailed instructions, see this YouTube video. Inside are two questions you can discuss or ponder. Why and how do our hearts change as we come unto Christ? Read the scripture passages and discuss.
Remember to head to the Family Study Fun section in your Ensign each week for simple ideas to help your family discuss the scriptures. This week’s activity is called Heart Scrambler.
Ready for another science experiment!? Make some magic treasure rocks with some baking soda and water. Hide a heart jewel inside and shape your rock like a heart. After it dries (about a day), put it into a glass of vinegar OR place your rock in a tray and spray it with vinegar. Watch it bubble and dissolve to leave behind the sparkly heart gem. Compare it to how our hearts can change. Ask your family what the vinegar might be, the bubbles, or the outer layer that dissolved away.
Study “A Mighty Change of Heart” by President Ezra Taft Benson. Use the points and questions at the bottom to help you prepare a lesson or better yet, someone else in your family. How can you as a family experience this mighty change of heart?
You can also compare your change of heart to how animals metamorphosis. Discuss how and why they change. Then share why we want to change and how we can do that too.
Why do we need to look to Jesus Christ in order to truly repent? How do you look to Christ as you go through the repentance process? How have you experienced a "mighty change of heart"? What can you do to help others experience this change? How is "godly sorrow" different from the regret some people feel when they have done something wrong? What teachings about the Atonement of Jesus Christ give you hope? How have you become a new creature in Christ? How can you better use the Sacrament to become reconciled to God each week? How has the gospel of Jesus Christ changed you? How can it still change you? Why is a change of behavior not enough? Why must our hearts change also? How does a change of heart prepare you to make covenants with the Lord?
Taking Upon Us the Name of Christ (Mosiah 5:5-15)
Print out my coloring scene above and look for examples in the scene of how we might take the name of Christ upon ourselves. Color all the examples you can think of- there are a lot! Then pick one and share how that helps us take on Christ’s name with your family or group. What are some things that you have done to take upon you His name? What does that mean to you- to have Christ’s name? How do you honor His name?
Enjoy your time together indoors with my Golf the Mini Way Family Date Night Kit. It goes over the doctrine of Christ and the baptism covenant which is one way you can take the name of Christ upon yourselves. Use the included discussion questions to help deepen your conversations this week (Pssttt… this is a great activity to do while you are staying at home and you don’t need any fancy equipment to make it work).
Have little ones? Try this quick matching game from The Friend February 2019 that goes over the baptism covenant.
Watch Dare to Stand Alone (about 4 1/2 minutes) and discuss how the youth in the video showed how they have taken upon themselves the name of Christ. Then share examples of how you can do so daily.
What does it mean to want what the Savior wants? How do you put the Savior first in your life? What does it mean to see yourself as Christ’s? Each week we partake of the sacrament. What are you promising to do as you take upon His name? Print sacrament cards to ponder this each week.
Discuss how each week we partake of the sacrament, we are saying we are willing to take Christ’s name upon us. What does that mean to you? Discuss why we partake of the sacrament in more detail with my puzzle question activity included in my Primary 2 Lesson 38 handouts.
