Can you believe it’s our last lesson in the New Testament? Come, Follow Me Revelation 12-22 "He That Overcometh Shall Inherit All Things" (December 23-29) finishes off the book of Revelation. One thing to keep in mind is that while Revelation does seem to go in chronological order, there are interludes in it. For example:
In Revelation 7:9-17, John sees an innumerable company of the righteous before he launches into a description of the judgments.
In Revelation 10:1-11 there is a pause in the middle of a description of the battle of Armageddon. An angel gives John a little book to eat which represents John’s ministry.
The “kingdoms” interlude is in Revelation 12-14. These chapters include an overview of the premortal existence to the Second Coming as it pertains to the kingdoms (Christ’s versus Satan’s).
In Revelation 15, there is an interlude to remind us of the joy of those who are saved.
Remembering these breaks will help you understand this last part of Revelation better. Refer to “Seeing the Book of Revelation As a Book of Revelation” by Gerald N. Lund for further insights.
Save it for later- pin it now!

Revelation 12:7-17
The war in heaven continues here. In these verses, we learn that we are faithful in the premortal life and thus were able to receive a body and come to earth.

Questions to Ponder
We know God will triumph in the end. How are you ensuring your spot on the winning team?
How does it help you to know there was a war in heaven?
How do you feel about being one who chose God’s plan?
What does the war look like today? How can you tell who is on your side? How can others tell which side you are on?
What are some promptings you have received that have protected you against Satan’s attacks?
Satan never rests. How are you remaining vigilant always? What can you do when you do get tired? What gives you energy?
How does your testimony help you overcome Satan?
What far are you willing to go to guard your testimony?
What are some wins we have made in this great battle against Satan?
How might we end up marking ourselves for one team or another?
Teaching Activities
As you study Revelation, try drawing out what you hear then deciphering it together. My free comic book templates are great for this. Plus these verses mention a dragon which is definitely fun to draw. Use the resources from the first week we studied Revelation to help you understand the meaning of this chapter better.
Have your own “war in heaven” and discussion. Grab my new Sock Wars Family Date Night Kit and battle it out. Then use the discussion questions above in addition to the ones in the kit for a great discussion of these scriptures. Don’t want to battle each other? Hang balloons from the ceiling instead or grab some helium ones to use as targets. Stuff animals, cup towers, and other toys make fun targets too.
Guess what!? You already passed the first test! We know that you being here on earth means you have kept your first estate- you chose to follow Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father (see the above verses and “War in Heaven” in Gospel Topics). We also know that every single person who is and was on earth did too. How does that make you feel? How does it make you feel about others we know? Does it give you a new determination to pass this next test?
- One of my favorite talks from my youth is “Life is a Football Game” by Troy Dunn. If you have football fans in your house, it’s a great youth talk to listen to this week as we talk about staying on the Lord’s team. Then, of course, you could play football (flag or full contact).

Questions to Ponder
How have you seen the Church try to help you and others prepare for the Second Coming?
What are some things you would like to have done before the Second Coming? What is preventing you from doing those things now?
How are you actively waiting for the Second Coming?
What gives you hope in the future despite the destruction and hard times that will come as the Second Coming approaches?
Who are people that can help you choose the right when wickedness seems to be rampant?
What helps you choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong? Why do you want to choose the harder right?
Teaching Activities
Have everyone sit in a circle. Start with one person holding a ball of yarn. They share one way they chose the right this week then throw the ball of yarn to the next person while still holding on to the end of the yarn (throw it across the room, not to the person directly next to you). Keep going around the circle until you have a well-formed web in the middle. If you were underneath the web, would it be hard to stand up in the middle? As we choose the right, not only do we prepare ourselves for the Second Coming but we also bind Satan and his influences down so they can’t bother us. This is kind of what it will be like when Satan won’t have power during the Millenium. It’s our righteousness that holds him down.
Make a variation of Sharks and Minnows. All the minnows will need tails to tuck into their backs (handkerchiefs and scarves work well). The sharks represent Satan’s helpers and try to take the tails from the minnows so they can’t make it to the “Celestial Kingdom.” Taking the tail would represent sin. You can also assign one person to be a lifeguard that gives the tails back to those captured. However, if they get caught, no one else can be saved. You can put the captured minnows in a “cage” in the middle or have them be sharks as well until they get their tails back.

Questions to Ponder
How do you see the Church preparing you to live in the Celestial Kingdom? How is your family? How are you? How are you helping others?
If you were to read your Book of Life today, what would you hope would (or wouldn’t) be in it? What can you do to make sure it reads the way you hope it will?
What are some daily things you are doing that are preparing you for a celestial glory?
What are some words you would use to describe the Celestial Kingdom?
Would you be comfortable meeting the final judgement bar today? Why?
Teaching Activities
Print out my Three Degrees of Glory target and practice making it to the Celestial Kingdom. As your family or class answer questions, they can try to hit the target with a bean bag (balled up socks work well too). You can have them share one thing we can do now to make the Celestial Kingdom our aim before they can throw as well. Obviously, there is a more direct relationship to our efforts and consequences but it’s a fun way to talk about it. There are two sizes of targets so be sure to print the one you want. Also, discuss why we want to be in the Celestial Kingdom.
Make your own Book of Life. What would be included in your past, present, and hopefully, the future? How does this compare to the Book of Life referred to in these scriptures? What if we don’t like a page in it? What can we do? You can go back and print out the Time Capsule pages to get you started and add more pages to it. You may also want to talk about why it’s good to keep a journal.
Play the “Lead Me, Guide Me” board game from The Friend (January 2018) as you discuss the path you can take as you strive to return back to our Father in Heaven.
Get out the old magazines and make a collage of things that you feel represent the Celestial Kingdom. Then share and discuss how we should be seeking out the best things in this life so we can live in the Celestial Kingdom together. Are there some things in your life that you wouldn’t glue on your collage? If so, what plan can you make to overcome those things?
