A Peanuts Halloween- Goodies and Trunk or Treat Ideas

Halloween is coming! It's a favorite time of year for many thanks to the beautiful colors in nature, the cooler weather, everything pumpkin, and the best reason of all, it's the start of the holiday season! Celebrate the fun of the Peanuts movie and Halloween with the following fun Halloween goodies and Trunk or Treat ideas.

Pick a night as a family to make your Trunk or Treat decorations then enjoy one of these Peanuts inspired treats to celebrate when you're done. Don't do Trunk or Treat? These ideas work great on your front porch too!

Charlie Brown Popcorn Balls

Charlie Brown is known for his classic yellow shirt with the single chevron at the bottom so why not make a popcorn ball highlighting his trademark? You'll need the following:

  • 1 1/2 bags of popcorn (popped, kernels removed)
  • 1 box of Nestle Raisinets
  • 1 bag of large marshmallows
  • 2 T of butter
  • Yellow food coloring (optional)

Melt the butter in a microwavable bowl. Add the marshmallows and stir to coat. Microwave for 45 seconds; stir again. Microwave for another 45 seconds and stir until smooth. Add a few drops of yellow food coloring and stir until well blended (this gives it that extra pop of color and the unmistakable Charlie Brown look). Add the popcorn to the gooey marshmallows and mix until all the popcorn is sticky. The key to this recipe is allowing the popcorn to remain sticky so you can easily add the Raisinet chevron. Spray your hands with nonstick cooking spray or get them slightly damp so the marshmallow won't stick to you instead. Grab a fistful of popcorn and shape it into a ball. Push the Raisinets into the popcorn ball using a chevron pattern. Enjoy immediately or cover in plastic wrap to pass out at your Trunk or Treat.

It's the Great Pumpkin Pudding Cup

Skip waiting around in the pumpkin patch and eat this fun treat instead. While shopping at Albertsons pick up these supplies:

Take apart the chocolate sandwich cookies, leaving the complete filling on one half of the cookie. Crumble up the other empty half to look like dirt for your pumpkin patch. Add it to the top of your pudding cup.  Insert the filling cookie half in the pudding just enough so it'll stick up and look like a full moon. Add pumpkins to your patch. Insert "Welcome Great Pumpkin!" sign (see below). Enjoy for family night!

Make your own "Welcome Great Pumpkin!" toothpick signs. Cut out and fold each strip in half. Tape a toothpick or straw to the inside then tape the paper shut.

Peanuts Halloween Trunk or Treat Ideas

Here are 3 easy ideas for your Trunk or Treat this year or combine them all together for full out fun.

The Sincerest Pumpkin Patch Trunk

You'll need:

  • Pumpkins (real and fake, whatever you have)
  • Light blue blanket (think Linus)
  • Dark sheet (night sky backdrop)
  • Yellow construction paper circle (moon)
  • Sign that says, "Welcome Great Pumpkin" (we made ours out of cardboard and butcher paper)

Tape the yellow circle to your dark sheet backdrop. Hang the sheet from the top of your trunk. We taped ours up with masking tape so it wouldn't ruin the car but still hold. Place the pumpkins in front of your trunk, making a path to where you'll be handing out treats. Place the light blue blanket that Linus always carries around over some of your pumpkins. Put your "Welcome Great Pumpkin" sign between some of your pumpkins so it'll stand up. If you have problems with it staying up, try taping it to the pumpkins or leaning it against your car.

Peanuts Gang Goes Trick or Treating Trunk

You'll need:

  • White Butcher Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Bowl of rocks
  • Dark sheet (night sky)
  • Yellow construction paper circle (moon)

Draw several ghost costumes on your white butcher paper. Make one with several eye holes like Charlie Brown's. Cut the ghosts out and tape to large rectangle cardboard pieces. Make a slit in the bottom of each large rectangle about 6 inches high. Cut another piece of cardboard 6 inches high and the same width as your large rectangles. When you put the large and short cardboard pieces together, it'll allow your ghost to stand on it's own. You can even put a witches hat on one ghost for Lucy. Place the ghosts on the sides of your trunk with the dark sheet as your backdrop (we used masking tape to secure ours). Hold a bowl of rocks and a bowl of candy and have fun offering both (Charlie Brown only got rocks for Halloween).

Psychiatric Help 5 Cents Trunk

You'll need:

  • Brown Butcher or Packaging Paper
  • Black Marker
  • Scissors
  • Pumpkins
  • Large White Index Card or Paper

Remember Lucy and all her psychiatric help? Make your own psychiatric booth by taping together butcher paper sheets so that it'll be wide enough to cover your trunk. Tape it up to your trunk then figure out how high you want your opening to be. Cut out a square opening then take it down and write the words, "Psychiatric Help 5 Cents" above the opening and "The Candy is" below it. Add a white rectangle sign that says "In" on one side and "Out" on the other. When you tape it up for Trunk or Treat night, keep your paper from blowing up by using pumpkins to weigh it down. Once your out of candy, flip your sign over to "Out."

ALL Out Peanuts Trunk

Combine all of the above to make one awesome trunk for Trunk or Treat! It's sure to make Trunk or Treaters everywhere smile.

If you do Trick or Treating in your neighborhood too, keep your decorations and use them on your porch!
