Save it for later, pin it now!

When printing your cards, use heavier paper or glue your pieces onto construction paper so that no one can see through the paper and cheat. There are 5 cards that have colored pioneers on them. The rest are black and white miscellaneous pictures.

What a fun game to play while studying the Doctrine and Covenants with Come Follow Me. #teachlikeachicken #ComeFollowMe #LDS

How to Play with a Lesson

Use this game to help keep your family or church class engaged in the lesson. Their goal is to find all 5 pioneers as fast as possible. Your goal is to get through as much of your lesson as possible with your family or class reading and answering all the questions before they find all the pioneers.

Make a 5x5 grid with the cards facing down. I find it helpful to also label your grid so people can call out the card they would like flipped over. After each person participates by answering a question, reading scripture, etc. they get to choose one card to flip over. Once they find all the pioneers, you take on the role of reading and answering all the questions instead. It usually works out in a great balance but be prepared to have it end quickly or for it to take to the very last square.

The larger version works well for this one as everyone can easily see it on the board.

Totally using this Pioneer game for the next Family Home Evening. Love it! #teachlikeachicken #ComeFollowMe #LatterdaySaints

How to Play for Fun

Print two copies of this game, one for each player or team. Set up a barrier so the other team can't see your 5x5 grid. All your cards should be facing up in this version. Label each team’s grid so it’s easy to call out the right card. For example, if you use letters in one direction and numbers in the other, you could call out C 4. Be sure both teams label their grids in the same way. Your goal in this game is to be the first one to rescue all five pioneers.

On your turn, call out a card that you hope will have a pioneer on it. If it does not have a pioneer the team will say “empty”. If it does have a pioneer, they will say, “You rescued a pioneer” and turn the card over. Each team takes turns guessing until one team has found all the pioneers.

The smaller version works well for this one as it’s easier to keep the pieces hidden.
