Did you catch that the parable of the ten virgins was mentioned three times this past April 2025 General Conference? President Camille Johnson (General Relief Society President), Elder Dale G. Renlund (member of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles), and President Dallin H. Oaks (First Counselor, First Presidency) each brought it up- so you know it's worth a closer look. Join us for a thoughtful (and fun!) review with our General Conference Pecks of Truth recap sheets- a simple way to reflect, remember, and keep the light burning bright.
Save it for later, pin it now
The parable of the 10 virgins is found in Matthew 25:1-13. To summarize, ten virgins are invited to a wedding feast. Five of them wisely bring extra oil for their lamps as they await the arrival of the Bridegroom. Five of them do not bring extra oil and run out. They rush off to the market to buy more and miss the arrival of the Bridegroom resulting in not being able to go to the wedding feast.
The Savior points out (see verse 13) that this parable can teach us about being prepared for His coming. We won’t know the exact day or hour so we must be prepared always. Here are some of the key points about this parable as pointed out in the April 2025 General Conference talks:
Elder Renlund reminds us to keep the Holy Ghost as our guide as we prepare for the Second Coming. We also need to beware of deception and follow only trusted, faithful sources.
President Oaks shares several divine helps we have access to throughout our time in mortality so why would we choose to remain unprepared?
President Johnson points out that the five who didn’t bring extra oil weren’t wicked, they are called foolish. They simply chose not to do those things which are most important each day to draw closer to Jesus Christ. She also points out that while we can’t share our oil, we can share our light.
