We’re told to “pray always” - it’s one of the key ways we show Heavenly Father we remember His Son, Jesus Christ (which we promise to do each week as we partake of the sacrament). But prayer doesn’t always come easy. Sometimes we’re stuck in a rut, unsure what to say, or feeling like no one’s listening.

The April 2025 General Conference offered beautiful insights to help us strengthen our personal prayers. Let’s dive into the inspired invitations and promised blessings - your prayers might just get the boost they’ve needed.

We gathered insights from 10 great talks this past General Conference into this one recap sheet. That’s not to say you can’t learn more about prayer as you continue to read and study the other talks though. Here are some highlights:

  • Elder David A. Bednar reminded us to prayer with the intention and preparation to receive an answer and act upon that answer like Joseph Smith did.

  • President Russell M. Nelson encouraged us to pray with the confidence that God hears us and understands our needs better than we do (thank goodness).

  • Sister Tamara W. Runia gave use an invitation to ask “What would my Savior say to the Father about me?” in a prayer then listen to the voice that says good things about us. She also encouraged us to imagine the Savior nearby as we pray.

  • Elder Sergio R. Vargas invited us to ask for help when we are feeling the weight of the temptations and afflictions in our lives. We can share our burden with Christ.

  • President Henry B. Eyring encouraged us to ask in prayer to feel closer to Jesus Christ.

Please note: These are our own words summarizing the talks. We highly recommend reading the full talks for yourself. Think of this sheet as a helpful jumping-off point to guide your study.

We also added a quick dive into the phrase “pray always” at the bottom of this review sheet. Did you know you can find that phrase a lot in the Doctrine and Covenants? Color and read those verses of scriptures as you ponder how you will approach your next prayer.
