Merry Bells are so much fun to play. The songs are beautiful, the play-along movies make it easy, and it’s fun learning a new instrument you can instantly play. You will love playing the bells for Family Home Evening or At Home Church. Take your bell playing to the next level with some fun games too!
Save it for later, pin it now!

Musical Bell Statues
Get out your bells and start playing. Pick one person to be “it.” While “it” you will not be playing the bells. “It” freezes the play-along music whenever they want. When the music freezes, all bell players must freeze in a statue position. “It” can try to get them to move by making funny faces, etc. but can not touch them. If a person moves, that player becomes “it” instead. If no one moves then push play and try again.
Name that Tune
Gotta love this classic game. Assign bell players and two people or teams to guess the tune. The guessers must leave the room so they can’t see the music on the screen. The two people who left the room challenge each other by saying, “I can guess that tune in 15 rings.” If the other team thinks they can do it in less they counter the challenge. If they think they can’t they say, “Name that tune!” The bell players then play the number of notes stated. If the team can name the tune, they get the point. If not, the other team gets to try with the additional notes they last countered with. If they still can’t guess it, no one gets the points.
Pass the Bell
This one gets challenging! Once you play a note (or a series if the same note is played multiple times in a row), you pass your bell to the next person. I recommended starting by designating only one bell color to be the one to pass. It becomes quite hard to remember which bell you are playing! Once that bell gets played, everyone has to pass their bell to the next person. See if you can get through a whole song without messing up!
Pass the Costume
Similar to pass the bell but instead, you pass the piece of costume you are wearing. Headband accessories are the easiest! Again, start with just one bell being the trigger to pass your costume.
How Many Can You Play?
This one is always entertaining to watch. Can you make it through a whole fast-paced song by yourself without messing up? Work your way up to playing all the bells at once. Feel free to be creative and get those toes involved too! You can make it a competition and see who plays a certain song solo the best.
Guess the Bell
See how well you know your notes! Have one person play a random bell without showing anyone any of the bells. Can they guess which one it is?
Sing, Dance, and Play
Have you ever tried the challenge of patting your head, rubbing your tummy, and hopping on one foot? This is like that! Can you play the bells while singing the song AND dancing to the music? It’s a great mental workout!
Trivia Game about Hymns
Having a hard time picking which hymn to sing first? Randomly pick one of my free printable trivia cards. If you guess correctly, you play that hymn. If not, try again! You can put the list of all the hymns included in the Merry Bells’ Play-Along Hymns on the screen to make it easier.
Combine It
Think you’ve mastered all the games? Try combining a few! Combine Pass the Costume with Musical Bell Statues. There is all sorts of fun to still be had!
