Would you like to get to know your church group better? Have you been a class or activity group all year but you still don’t know much about one another? This quick and easy Get to Know You Game is your answer! It can help you learn a little more about each other and help you talk about coming to know God and Jesus Christ better.

Save it for later, pin it now!

How to Play

Grab a pack of M&M’s or Skittles (or a candy with similar colors)- or maybe some of each! Print out the corresponding Get to Know You cards- there are two sheets with the different colors for the two candies. Give everyone some candy then go around in a circle answering two questions at a time for the colors of candy they have. After they answer the question for that color, they can put that piece of candy in a bag to take home or eat it. Keep going around the circle until everyone has used all of their candy.

I prefer to use Fun Size packages of candy so no one gets too much sugar during the activity. If you choose to use a larger amount, you may want to consider some more active activities afterwards.

Variations

  • If one person has a ton of red candy for instance, you may want to switch things up. Instead of telling something they did yesterday, let someone in the group ask them a question.

  • Ask people how full they want you to fill their cup of candy before you introduce the activity. You can use gloves and measuring tools to make this work safely. Give them a choice between 1 tablespoon, 1/4 cup, or 1 teaspoon for example. This way, some will answer more questions than others. Point out how we come to know more when we ask more questions.

  • Do the measuring thing again letting everyone pick how much they want but don’t give them their cup of candy just yet. Instead, lay them all on the table as you fill them up. Then ask each person who they would like to give their cup to (and it can’t be themselves). You can do this without them knowing beforehand that they are giving it away or tell them specifically whose cup they are filling.

  • Skip the candy and use dice instead. You can buy some wood blocks at the dollar store. Paint each side a color to match the sheets (if you have a spare side, paint it black and call it a wild). You may need to give everyone their own dice for safety reasons. Then ask everyone to pick a number between 1 and 10. That’s how many times they have to roll their dice.

Gospel Tie In

Compare this fun Get to Know You activity to how we can come to know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. We can ask them questions too! We can discover the answers while we ponder and pray, study the scriptures, and listen to the Holy Ghost. What are some questions you have for and about them? How will you go and find out the answer this week?

Do It Virtually

You can definitely still do this activity online together instead. You’ll need to drop a pack of M&Ms, Skittles, or dice off with before your activity. Once everyone is online together, open the bags and take turns sharing. Easy and fun!

Primary or Youth Activity Tip

If you are doing this as a Primary or Youth Activity, keep notes! It will help you as you try to plan your next activities. Now that you know what’s important to people, what they like to do, things they have learned, etc. you can bring it up again as you brainstorm together. You now know what talents they can share with others and maybe even what goals they are working on. Incorporate those things into your activities!
