Are you studying the New Testament this year? Often we read through the New Testament and appreciate the stories and highlight specific verses which is great. However, learning about who wrote a book of scripture and why can really broaden our understanding and enrich our studies. Print some New Testament definition cards to help you and your family enjoy the scriptures even more.
Save it for later, pin it now!
Each definition card explains a little bit about an individual, group, or thing as well as leaves space for you to jot down some additional notes and highlights. We put ours around a key ring and keep it near all our scriptures so we can reference them anytime. Take a minute to review the relevant cards before you hold your family scripture studies. We can become so familiar with something that we forget to explain it to our children. For example, the JST. Do they know what it stands for and why it was written? Do they know where to look for it?
You will find the following definition cards in this download:
Matthew
Mark
Luke
John
JST
Joseph Smith- Matthew
Kingdom of Heaven
Pharisees
Sadducees
Priesthood Keys
Saul (Paul)
Stephen
Quorums of the Seventy
A Certain Woman
Epistles
Learn more about the footnotes in the Bible as well! Head to ”Taking Note: Marking the Footnotes in the New LDS Edition of the Bible,” an article from the Ensign when the footnotes first came out. It explains what the different abbreviations mean, some of the ways it’s helpful, as well as gives suggestions for how you might want to mark them in your scriptures. See if you can find all the different examples in your scriptures as a family.
Hoping for additional definition cards? Let me know in the comments and I’ll see what I can do.
