Who’s ready to study the Doctrine and Covenants this year? It’s full of so much history and beautiful revelation as the beginning of the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ unfolds. To help you in your quest to understand this great book of scripture, we’ve created section titles and a timeline for each section of D&C. Print yours and use it a study companion this year.

Save it for later, pin it now!

We're entering the part of church history that isn't abridged into one much smaller book like the Book of Mormon. It’s exciting yet overwhelming. As you dive into the Doctrine & Covenants, you may want to explore all the church history that goes with it. These details can give extra insights, but it’s also a whole lot to take in. Some weeks you may be able to dive into it all and some weeks, well, you won’t. Avoid the overwhelm by deciding now to always make reading the scripture passages your first priority then supplement with additional history as your time permits. We can still learn from a revelation given to Emma Smith or David Patten even without knowing all the history thanks to the blessing of being able to study with the best tutor around, the Holy Ghost.

We wanted to help make things simpler too by giving you a quick overview and pointing you towards additional context so your time is spent learning instead of looking for the right resource. Most sections of the Doctrine & Covenants are laid out chronologically. However, there are a few that are not. Some sections are grouped more by topic instead. For example, section 133 was revealed after section 70. This free printable is laid out so you can see those exceptions easier and see the unfolding of the Restoration a little bit better. In this printable you’ll find:

  • Section titles to help you know what each section is about at first glimpse.

  • Dates to better understand the timeline the revelations were received.

  • Which chapters to read in Saints to further understand the history.

  • A few key events to give you quick context.

  • Plus a Come Follow Me schedule and room for notes.

Chapters cited in our chart refer to Saints: Volume 1, The Standard of Truth, unless otherwise noted. You can find it your Gospel Library app.

Section titles reflect some main themes and key teachings from my perspective. Feel free to make them your own. Many find it helpful to write these titles in their own scriptures for quick recall of what each section is about. The Notes section in this book is great for adding cross-references to General Conference talks, extra historical insights, and points you want to be sure to mention to your family.
