An Easter egg hunt is always exciting, but what if it could also be a meaningful way to focus on Jesus Christ? A Silent Easter Egg Hunt adds a sense of reverence while still keeping the fun of discovering hidden eggs. As participants move quietly from station to station, they’ll have moments to reflect on the life and teachings of Christ, making Easter more than just a celebration- it becomes a time of deeper connection and faith. Read on to see how you can bring this special tradition to your family!

Save it for later, pin it now!

Note on silent: We allowed whispering for quick questions but encouraged quiet reflection throughout the hunt. We also had people start the hunt at slightly different times (a minute or two apart) so they weren’t all trying to scan the QR codes at the same time and had space to ponder. It also helped ease the competitiveness as each started at different times so it was okay if they weren’t at the same station.

How to Set up a Silent Easter Egg Hunt

  1. Choose Six Stations – These can be indoors, outdoors, or a mix of both. It’s okay if you have use the same room twice- just space it out so everyone isn’t on top of each other.

  2. Print and Display the Signs – Use our free printable signs at each station (find them at the bottom of this post). These include instructions, messages, and QR codes linking to short, uplifting videos from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If you prefer to customize the experience, we also offer printable sheets without QR codes. This allows you to include different videos, such as the story of Easter in the Book of Mormon, for example. There is a treasure trove of great Easter videos you can explore on the Church’s website. We included the ones we used in a list further down in this post so you can preview them ahead of time. To make your own QR codes, we suggest the QR Code Generator from bit.ly. They are free to make as long as you don’t need any of the extras. Many other sites that make free QR codes expire after a month, these ones never expire. You can print out different codes then attach them to our blank posters.

  3. Divide and Hide Your Eggs – Each station’s sign has a designated space where you can list what to hunt for in that area. Everyone will find the same amount of items. This helps prevent a mad rush and ensures everyone gets what they need. When we doubled up on rooms, we did one color of plastic eggs for one station and another color for the next one. For example: find 10 red eggs and 1 chocolate bunny or find 5 gold eggs and 1 small toy. By spreading out the stations and clearly listing how many treats to find, everyone can go at their own pace- some pondering quietly, others moving a bit faster.

  4. Gather Your Baskets and Electronics Make sure all devices are fully charged so they can enjoy the videos all along the way. Some of our kids enjoyed using headphones as well. Place your baskets next to station one’s sign and you are ready to invite people in.

What If My Kids Don’t Have Phones?

No problem! We paired children without a phone with someone who did. One of our kids started off with a parent and then used their phone independently once they understood how it worked. You could also set up devices queued up to play the right video at each station instead.

Ending the Hunt

You will want to set up a peaceful space where participants can quietly enjoy their gathered treats at the end of the hunt. Kids will arrive at different times, so having a reverent spot to sit, eat, and reflect really helps. Once everyone is gathered together, you can share your testimonies with one another about our Savior. You can kickstart it by asking your family how they felt as they watched the videos, thoughts they had, or any new appreciation for Jesus Christ.

What our Kids Loved About This Hunt

We were nervous doing this hunt because you never know how your children will react when you change things up. Our youngest was 11 and our oldest was 18 so they were plenty old enough for something more serious. We asked them what they thought about it and this is what they said they really liked:

  • It kept the focus on Jesus Christ, making Easter feel truly special.

  • No pressure- kids could move at their own pace.

  • Time to watch the videos quietly and reflect- they could be on their own if they wanted.

  • Still got to hunt for eggs and enjoy treats!

My youngest had the hardest time with it because he much rather just go for the fun of it all but since he still got the treats, he was satisfied. However, my older ones really enjoyed it.
