In this week’s lesson, “We Have Come to Worship Him: Luke 2; Matthew 2” we are focusing on the birth and childhood of Jesus Christ.
As you ask your class to share what they have learned this week, try putting several different gospel art pictures on the board to help jog their memory. Then they can point to it as they share.

Teaching Ideas
These are my ideas based off the manual to help you facilitate discussion and teach specific points.
Pull out the paper bag puppets from last week to continue acting out these chapters.
Bring a beautiful gift bag filled with tissue paper as well as a few pieces of papers with gifts the Savior has given us and gifts we can give in return (print on different color paper to easily tell the difference). Pass the bag around the room asking each person to mention a gift the Savior has given them. If they can’t think of one, they can draw a piece of paper from the bag. Then have them say one thing they want to do to give a gift to Christ. Again, if they can’t think of something, they can draw it from the bag then personalize it.
As you discuss ways we can give gifts to the Savior, share some of the #LIGHTtheWORLD videos or examples from Christmas. You can even have your class say what gifts they have already given the Savior as they do this lantern object lesson.
- Need a safe Nativity set to bring? I love this toilet paper roll nativity set from Somewhat Simple. It’s easy to make and it’s okay if something gets ruined.
- Study some of the prophecies about Christ's birth using my worksheet. Each square as a prophecy you can read from the scriptues. Draw what the scripture explains will happen then find the fulfillment in this week's chapters.
- As you discuss prophecies, you could make a paper chain countdown to next week’s church class. Bring some Nativity stickers to decorate the strips then write some things they can do on each chain to prepare for your next lesson such as find out who John is.
Discuss Christ’s childhood as you make an All About Me book that shows how your class will grow too. Point out some similarities they might have with the Savior.
Since it’s the beginning of the year, it’d be a great time to discuss some things they might not have known last year but do now. For example: how to read, multiplication, an ancestor, etc. The more we grow, the more we learn!
Have some fun measuring each other! Print out my animal graphics then have them lay down on the floor and measure each other with the different animals. Are they 20 butterflies long or 6 crocodiles?
Get some pictures from the church library or print some out at LDS.org of Christ leading by example. Hand out one picture to each child then ask them to look at their picture and tell how we can follow Christ’s example and go about our Heavenly Father’s business.
