Questions to Ponder

Thanks to the volunteer for provided these questions. Sign up to help next General Conference!

  • How interested are you in a guaranteed offer of lasting happiness?

  • Why do you think the Plan of Salvation also called the Plan of Happiness?

  • Why do you feel it is important for us to teach our children that wickedness never was happiness?

  • How does the Atonement of Jesus Christ cleansing and perfecting us make us more holy?

  • Why do you feel continual repentance necessary?

  • What covenants have you made? How are you striving to keep them? How do they help you become more holy?

  • How can we qualify for the gift of becoming ever more holy?

  • What do the scriptures teach us will lead to becoming more sanctified?

  • How do we qualify for the gift of holiness?

  • How does regular temple attendance increase our desire to be more holy?

  • Where can we feel a level of holiness we felt in our pre-mortal existence?

  • How does increased sanctification help us hear the Holy Ghost?

  • What role does patience play in your life when you don’t feel happiness the instant we pursue holiness?

  • What does it mean to have spiritual eyes and how can we develop them?

  • What things must we do so that God can change us and make us more holy?

  • What would it mean to become the best version of ourselves?

  • How do we attain that degree of holiness where we can have the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost?

  • How do we come to view and evaluate things of this world with the perspective of eternity?

Use this temple coloring page as reminder of things that are holy. How would you describe a temple? How can we be like too?

Discussion Ideas

  • Draw or hang a picture of the temple on your board. Point out or ask what it says on the front of the temple (“Holiness to the Lord”). Since temples are holy places, perhaps we can better understand what it means to be holy by reviewing the new temple questions President Russell M. Nelson shared in his closing remarks of General Conference. You can also read the definition of holiness in the Bible Dictionary.

  • Head to Preach My Gospel and do the Attribute Activity. How do we further develop these attributes? As you work on improving in one area, how can you see yourself becoming more holy? How can you improve? How do you increase in holiness without become discouraged along the way? You can watch this Christlike Attributes video (about 3 minutes) afterwards to contemplate which attribute you will work on and what that might look.

  • In Sister Wendy Watson Nelson’s book, “What Would a Holy Woman Do?”, she challenges people to go one day as a “holy woman.” Then they share how the normal things they did, changed. Invite your class likewise before they come to class. What changed? How can we live more holy?
  • There are six videos about holiness you can choose from and include in your lesson.
