Lesson 34: Joseph Smith Teaches about Baptism for the Dead

As you teach Primary 5 Lesson 34: Joseph Smith Teaches about Baptism for the Dead, remember the overall purpose is to understand the importance of baptism for the dead.

Teaching Thoughts

  • Encourage your class to dive deeper into their own family history with these free Family History Dinner Discussions or one of these Family History Games.
  • If your kids needs constant involvement, try answering the review questions by playing Slapjack. Bring a deck of Uno cards, split in two equal piles. Two people come to the front and flip over one card at the same time. If the don't match, keep going. If they do match, each person tries to slap the pile first. The last hand on top has to answer the question.
  • There is a great group activity included in the class packet from The Red Headed Hostess.

My Primary 5 Lesson 34 Handout Packet includes

  • Question Cards- The questions are from the manual plus some extra ones to make sure there are enough cards. If you have a large class, you might need to use two copies. Divide up the cards between each member of your class so they have at least 2 each. On a player's turn, they must pick one card from another player and answer that question. Some cards include hints (scripture references) and bonuses. If the person gets the bonus correct, reward in some way- they pick who says the closing prayer, the next person has to pick 2 cards, high five, etc. There are also 2 cards that allow someone to not answer for one turn. 16 cards total.
