Making Small Things Great Object Lesson

"Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise." - Alma 37:6

In other words, you don't have to go to a university to become a scripture scholar, you simply need to study your scriptures every day. You don't have to become a prophet to talk to God, you simply need to pray. It's those daily consistent acts that matter so much. It's exactly what President Howard W. Hunter teaches in Chapter 11- True Greatness. Real greatness comes from small daily acts.

If you are new, every Wednesday, different LDS bloggers share their favorite scripture and why via Facebook. In each Faceboook Live video, they will also tell you about the new free printable to go along with their scripture. Be sure to like our Facebook Page so you can find out each week. Sometimes it's a poster to hang in your home, sometimes a coloring page, or even a mini booklet. Be sure to check out some of the other scripture freebies you can use after you grab this one.

This week's scripture is from Aimee at The Apricot Tree. Head over to her FHE idea about King Benjamin- it's perfect for the summer!

What are some of the small and simple things that you can do daily? Say your prayers, read your scriptures, smile. They seem so little, how could they possibly make a difference?

As you begin this origami project you will make simple and small folds but in the end, you'll have a beautiful tree. And so it is with us. As we continually do those small things, we nourish our seed of faith, we become more. While some origami folds are more difficult than others, so will some of the seemingly simple things at times seem more difficult. As you continue to push through and do them, you'll figure it out and get there in the end.

For this object lesson, I combined the 3D Paper Christmas Tree idea from this YouTube video with the trunk in this Christmas Tree YouTube tutorial. There are a lot of options when it comes to making an origami tree. I recommend watching each video all the way through before doing it with them so you know what things to expect. If you want the easiest tutorial, it's the 3D Paper Christmas Tree. If you want to challenge yourself a little more, do all of the Christmas Tree including the trunk. When you click the image above, you will be able to print out patterned paper as well as the scripture poster. This project will be easier, however, with real origami paper such as this multi colored origami paper pack from Craft Haven.

Turn this origami into a daily challenge by printing out the directions for the 3D Paper Christmas Tree. For each small thing you do or each day you do the important small things, do one fold. It's a great lesson on how small daily steps come together quicker than we may at first think.

Your Turn-  What small things have made a big difference in your life? How do you keep those small things a top priority in your life?
