“Spiritual Capacity" by Michelle Craig (First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency) was such a great follow up to the introduction of the new youth program. If you are wondering how to receive inspiration for your life, this talk will help you understand how to be in tune with the Spirit.

Questions to Ponder

Thanks to the volunteer who provided these questions! Sign up to help next General Conference!

  • How do we know when God is trying to tell us something?

  • How can we tell between our own thoughts and the impressions of the Holy Ghost?

  • How can we eliminate distractions so we can better hear the promptings of the Holy Ghost?

  • What are some things we might need to eliminate or rearrange in order to create time to ponder and pray for inspiration?

  • What could cause us to delay in acting upon the promptings we receive?

  • What might be some consequences for ourselves or others if we delay our actions?

  • What are some examples of being on the Lord's errand?

  • What lessons can be learned from the story about Brother Fritz Hjalmar helping his neighbor fix the roof?

  • How can we seek out the "lost sheep"?

  • What’s an example of a way the Lord has personalized inspiration just for you?

Use this coloring page to help point out how we may receive revelation differently throughout our lives or as individuals.

Discussion Ideas

  • Ask some people in your class ahead of time where and when they intentionally find time to hear God’s voice. Write these answers on strips of paper and play a little bit of a Pictionary style of game (it’s a great way to warm people up to discussion). People will guess either the time or the place. Then ask why it’s important to them that they intentionally carve out time to hear God’s voice.

  • How many of us put reminders in our phones or we won’t remember to do them? If it’s not on my calendar or set on my phone as a reminder, chances are I’m going to forget. How are we preparing ourselves to be able to immediately at upon promptings we receive then? Are we doing it immediately? Do we put a reminder in our phones to stop by the store on the way home? What’s the plan?

  • Have you ever judged your promptings? Dismissed them because they seemed too easy or weird? Have you been worried about how you will look carrying them out? How can we stop judging our promptings and start acting on them? If we should stop judging each other, we should stop judging our promptings and simply act on them. It’s okay that they are different. The story of Moses, the Brother of Jared, and Nephi are great examples. Review their stories pointing out some of the promptings that we may be tempted to judge if we were to receive them today. For example, “I can’t build a boat. I’ll look ridiculous. I’ll mess it up. It’s going to take up too much space.” In this context, it’s easier to see the ridiculousness of ourselves second guessing our promptings. How do we stop doing so with our promptings today?

  • Briefly review the new youth program. It’s all based on being able to receive revelation. How can we support the youth in this? How can following our promptings help the youth do likewise? You could even take time to make your own goals.
