The one question I have after listening to "Found through the Power of the Book of Mormon" by Elder Rubén V. Alliaud is why in the world his uncle had about 200 copies of the Book of Mormon in his library. Anyone else? I love how his uncle didn’t have to say anything but let his life and his home speak for him. What a powerful example.

Questions to Ponder

  • As you think about the parables taught in the lesson and mentioned in this talk, why do you think it is important that we search out the one even though 99 out of 100 is generally considered to be an excellent percentage?

  • After we find the one, how do we help him or her start or return to the path? What steps can we take to help him or her stay on the path?

  • When and how did you recognize the truth of the Book of Mormon for the first time? How has that helped your spiritual growth? When was the last time you felt this truth?

  • In what ways is the Book of Mormon central to the gathering of Israel?

  • What would your life be like without the Book of Mormon?  What would you not know?  What would you not have?

  • How do you incorporate study and pondering of the Book of Mormon in your daily lives as we have been counseled to do?

  • Why do you think we are reminded and invited to read the Book of Mormon so often?

  • Is it enough to declare “I know the Book of Mormon is true”?  Why?

  • Have you read a passage of the Book of Mormon many times with no inspiration then the next time you read it, something “pops” for you?  Why and how do you think that happens?

  • What eternal consequences rest upon our response to the Book of Mormon?

  • How can asking the following questions help you as you read the Book of Mormon: Why did these writers choose these stories or events to include in the record? What value are they for us today?  How can these stories help me and others?

  • How has the Book of Mormon brought power into your life?

Hand out this Book of Mormon coloring page at the end of your lesson and read the scripture out loud together before you close.

Discussion Ideas

  • Begin by discussing the lost parables: the parable of the lost sheep, lost coin, and the prodigal son. You can split into three groups and have each one draw the story on my free comic book templates. Then, you as the teacher read the comic versions out loud. How can the Book of Mormon help with these lost parables? How has the Book of Mormon found us?

  • How did you find out the Book of Mormon was the word of God? Ask people ahead of time or save time for people to share their testimonies of the Book of Mormon and when they first knew for themselves. Then share your testimony focusing on the last time you had the spirit testify to you of the Book of Mormon instead. How do we consistently build our testimony of the Book of Mormon?

  • Pick some gospel art pictures (check your library or print some pictures from ChurchofJesusChrist.org) that depict various stories from the Book of Mormon. Divide into groups or work together through each picture answering the following questions: How can this story give power to my life? How can I see Christ in this story? Who can I share this story with?

  • Watch one of the new Book of Mormon videos released by the Church. What new insights did you notice? Why do you think the Church has put time and money into making these videos? How can we use them appropriately in our families and with our friends?

  • Watch What is the Book of Mormon? A 60-Second Overview (about 1 minute). How would you sum up the Book of Mormon? If you had 60 seconds to share the Book of Mormon with a friend, what would you say?
