How many people are looking forward to Come, Follow Me 2 Nephi 31-33 "This Is the Way" (March 2-8)? I love that it’s getting extra addition because of a popular TV show. It makes it a great opportunity to discuss what really is the way and how we can know that for ourselves.

Jesus Christ is the Way to Eternal Life (2 Nephi 31-32)
In 2 Nephi 31, we learn we need to follow Christ’s example and doctrine. It’s the way. Have some fun figuring out the right way your family should go with a minefield game. Make a grid on your floor using tape or grab enough scrap pieces of paper. I prefer grids 5x5 but you can make it easier or harder by adjusting the size. On another piece of paper, mark one pathway people can go through the grid safely. You can have them go forward, sideways, diagonal, and if you want to make it extra tricky, backward but no skipping over spaces. Only you can see the answer to which way to go. People then must try to get from one end of the grid to the other safely. One misstep means your entire group has to start all over again. Discuss how this is like following Jesus Christ’s example and going the right way toward eternal life. Making a misstep is like repentance as we can try again after going back to the beginning. There is only one way to go just like Jesus Christ is the only way.
Have some drawing fun. Study 2 Nephi 31:17-20 using my comic page template. In each box, draw the main points you notice in the verse then share and discuss. If you want a different style template, there are more fun templates in my Come, Follow Me resources.
Jesus Christ set the example of obedience when He was baptized (2 Nephi 31:4-13)
Have some mini golf fun this week as you talk about baptism, the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end with my Golf the Mini Way Family Date Night Kit! At each hole you’ll have a question to answer that goes great with this Come, Follow Me lesson then a fun twist to try while you putt. Definitely a fun Family Date Night!
Take advantage of some of the past printables I’ve made for baptism such as:
- Green Jell-O with Carrot also has a file folder where you can dress the children for their baptism game or if you have older children play a fun Baptism Board Game from Latter-day Chatter.
Review the fourth Article of Faith as you discuss the doctrine of Christ. If you have Primary children, use this page from the March 2015 Friend to help.
You can also color this page and do the maze from the Book of Mormon activity book as you talk about what the doctrine of Christ is.
The Holy Ghost will tell me all things I should do (2 Nephi 31:17-20; 32)
Discuss how we can invite the Holy Ghost into our lives more so we will know the way we should go (reference 2 Nephi 31:17-20; 32). Print and fold up my Holy Ghost cootie catcher. The outside words are things the Holy Ghost does. Under each flap is something we can do to invite the Holy Ghost in. Do one a day or let everyone pick their own to do and report back. Need folding directions? Check out these ones.
There is also a blank cootie catcher for you to personalize. Come up with your own ideas of how to invite the Holy Ghost into your life or how you know it’s a prompting from the Holy Ghost.
Discuss what some of the words mean in 2 Nephi 31:19-20. This New Era article from June 2014 can help.
Feast on the Words of Christ (2 Nephi 32:3)
Have a Book of Mormon feast as you talk about feasting on the words of Christ in 2 Nephi 32:3. You can print my feast labels for some extra fun. Make a delicious feast then don’t let anyone actually eat. Just stare at it. That’s like having scriptures but never actually opening them up or not being in the room listening when General Conference is on. Then let everyone take a bite of three things. That’s snacking. What can you compare that to when you read the scriptures? Continue to increase how much food everyone gets until you get to feasting. Then ask which your family prefers. How can you feast on the words of Christ as a family and individually? What goals does it make you want to make? Is that one of your spiritual goals already? How are you doing?
Don’t have time for a feast? That’s okay. You can still talk about the difference between feasting, snacking, and starving. Give everyone a piece of paper and have them self-evaluate by writing down which they are doing in each category (feasting, snacking, starving). This can really help with making spiritual goals. Try the following categories and any others you can think of: Personal scriptures study, Sacrament meeting, Church classes, General Conference, family scripture study, seminary, Come Follow Me lessons/study, prayer, temple attendance.
Discuss some scenarios and how the words of Christ can help us know what to do. Elder Spencer J. Condie walks you through four examples in this article from the September 2004 Ensign.
We should Pray Always (2 Nephi 32:8-9)
In 2 Nephi 32:8-9 we read how we should pray always. Try one of my past helps to help your family or class discuss prayer, how to pray, why we should pray, etc.:
Understanding Prayer Flipbook for Kids- goes over four scripture stories, language, and more.
Prayer Bags- good for smaller children
Study the talk “Answers to Prayers” by Elder Brook P. Hales with these questions to ponder
If you are still teaching your children how to pray, I love the Scripture Scout video about prayer. You can also practice how to be reverent during a prayer by doing a silly game. Have a reverent sign or prayer sign then a crazy sign. When the reverent sign goes up, everyone has to practice by getting in the prayer position and be as quiet and still as can be. When it goes down, they can laugh and run and dance all silly. Continue to use it as you gather for prayers.
- Kimberly Bourne Design also has file folder puzzle about prayer to help young ones learn.
The Book of Mormon persuades all to believe in Christ (2 Nephi 33)
In 2 Nephi 33, Nephi says why he is writing- to persuade all to believe in Jesus Christ. That’s the whole purpose of the Book of Mormon. Watch one of the Book of Mormon experiments then try it yourself. See how the Book of Mormon talks and testifies of Christ.
Book of Mormon Experiment Honolulu (about 2 1/2 minutes)
Book of Mormon Experiment Georgia (about 3 minutes)
Watch What is the Book of Mormon? A 60-Second Overview then come up with your own way to share how the Book of Mormon talks about Christ in 60 seconds. Why can this be helpful? Who can you share this with?
