In 2 Nephi 26:20-33 we are reminded that Jesus Christ wants all to come unto Him. He doesn’t hide in some corner so only a select few will notice. He turns on His light and beckons to all. Have a little fun after discussing these verses with a balloon race. Tape my Come coloring page up at one side of the room. Then grab some balloons, straws, and string. Tie one end of the string across the room from the Come picture. Then slide the straw on to the string and attach the other end of the string next to the Come picture. You can do two strings if you want to race or one string and just time it. Take a balloon and draw something to represent yourself on the balloon (be careful not to smear it). Then for every way you can think of to come unto Christ right now (you yourself), you get one puff of air in your balloon. Once you run out of ideas or your balloon has reached maximum capacity, hold the balloon by the end so no air escapes and tape it to the straw on the string. At the count of three let go and see if your balloon makes it to the Come coloring page.
In Sister Jean B. Bingham's October 2017 General Conference talk, "That Your Joy Might Be Full," she encourages us to learn of Jesus Christ, have faith in Him, and emulate Him. Discuss these three points and how they can help you come unto Jesus.
Make your room as dark as possible and pick someone to be It. Everyone else must find the person who is It. Then try the game again this time with It holding a flashlight (turned on, of course). Discuss how easy it was to find the person when they had a light on. Christ is constantly inviting everyone to come unto Him. How can we help others see Christ’s light and accept His invitation?
2 Nephi 26-27 discusses the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, the three witnesses, and the 116 pages. Print my three witnesses cards to briefly review the witnesses again with your family. How can you be a witness of the Book of Mormon? How can you share your witness?
Get out my Book of Mormon Discussion cards. They will have you discussing and thinking about the Book of Mormon in all sorts of new ways. Some are pure fun questions while others are more serious, either way, you’ll be talking more about the Book of Mormon.
Ponder the questions that President Russell M. Nelson asked in his October 2017 General Conference talk, "The Book of Mormon: What Would Your Life Be Like without It?”. You can use my free printable sheets with the questions to journal your thoughts or break into groups to discuss.
How can we immerse ourselves in the Book of Mormon and get more out of it as we read each week? You can demonstrate immersion visually with a jar, water, and a sponge. When a sponge is placed on top of the water, it will float- that's like us lightly reading the Book of Mormon- it only gets a little wet. However, if you immerse it, it is completely soaked and you can even squeeze water out of it. How can you do that with the Book of Mormon and your weekly Come, Follow Me lessons? Why do you want to?
Review the Book of Mormon with a look at the entire timeline at once. Print out my free Book of Mormon timeline, read a little about each major event, and assemble it.
Have some Tic Tac fun. Pass the container of Book of Mormon Tic Tacs around the room. Each person can take a Tic Tac if they share one reason why they are grateful for the Book of Mormon (or another similar question). You can give everyone their own afterward so they will be reminded of the Book of Mormon each time they grab one (Psstt… these also make cute little birthday gifts for ministering people, your Primary class, the youth, etc).
Why do you personally need the Book of Mormon? What are some passages of the Book of Mormon that have strengthened your testimony of Jesus Christ? What examples have you seen of the Book of Mormon and the Bible going "hand in hand" in testifying of the Savior? How can you share the Book of Mormon with someone this week? How has the Book of Mormon been a comfort for you? A guide? In what ways has the Book of Mormon changed your life and your perspective?
Have the missionaries come in and share their testimony of the Book of Mormon as well as the joy they receive as they witness of it. If they can, have them bring extra copies of the Book of Mormon to challenge your class or family to share a copy as well. Print these templates so they can write down their testimony inside.
Bring out a plate of some delicious treats- plenty to share with others. At the beginning of your lesson thoroughly enjoy it in front of everyone without offering anything to anyone and saying "No" when they ask. Compare this to how we sometimes shy away from sharing the Book of Mormon with others but shouldn't because it is something so delicious and wanted by others.
2 Nephi 27 contains the most significant prophecies about the latter-day Restoration. How does this chapter strengthen your testimony of the Church today? How is the Book of Mormon part of the “marvelous work and a wonder”?
Reading 2 Nephi 28 is a great way to plan a defense against Satan and his minions. It’s so much easier to resist temptation when you can recognize it and have a plan in place. Discover ways Satan tries to deceive us in chapter 28. You may also want to read Elder Peter M. Johnson’s General Conference talk, “Power to Overcome the Adversary” (or the 3 D’s as I like to call it). I made a play or battle plan card for each of the three D’s Elder Johnson mentions in his talk. Print them out and make your own plan for overcoming Satan’s obstacles. There is also a blank play sheet for you to design your own.
Why is it easier to recognize a temptation or lie when you already know about it? Why is it easier for you to say, “No” to something if you have already decided beforehand? What things might you need a battle plan for? How can we help each other in defending against Satan’s attacks?
You can also grab a coloring page I made from Elder Johnson’s talk. It includes one way we can arm ourselves and be prepared for battle.
Make line upon line guessing cards- The word to guess goes at the top then you give clues (hardest to easiest). The sooner you guess it, the more points you get. Let everyone in your family come up with a word for a guessing card that relates back to this lesson or another one we have learned this year. After you guess each others’, ask why they picked that word. You can also ask which clues they learned this year and what they already knew. Discuss how you couldn’t make these cards unless your family or class had been learning from the scriptures every week.
Do this fun cup object lesson to discuss how we can receive revelation for our own lives.
