Wide Margins make it easy to add all sorts of notes or to artistically make your way through the scriptures. Deseret Book has paper back and hard cover versions.
Books to Help You Study
"Don't Miss This in the Doctrine and Covenants" by Emily Belle Freeman and David Butler is a popular choice for many Come Follow Me families. Dive into specific verses and how they apply to your life today with 140 devotionals.
"The Essential Doctrine and Covenants Companion" by Mary Jane Woodger includes explanations for central concepts of each section and highlights its message about Jesus Christ (pictured above).
The popular author David J. Ridges has a series for the Doctrine and Covenants too, "Your Study of the Doctrine and Covenants Made Easier." There are three volumes to this one.
"Church History for Latter-day Saint Families" by Thomas R. Valletta is one of my favorites. It's a nice large book, beautifully bound, with illustrations, helpful footnotes, definitions, etc. (pictured above- it's the green one underneath)
P.S. Deseret Bookshelf PLUS is another great option. It gives you access to a lot of these as eBooks allowing you to really find the one that you like best.
Gospel Doctrine is a website and app you can get that helps give background to each section plus quotes to help you understand various verses better.
Revelations in Context and Saints are books from the Church. You can access them online, in the app, or order them from distribution.
I always like the Institute manuals from the church as well. You can get the Doctrine and Covenants one as well as one that focuses on Church History.

The Red Headed Hostess has a great study book for studying the Doctrine and Covenants if you like to write as you go. If you are looking for commentary, you'll want her weekly lesson helps instead. The study book helps you ponder more about the verses.
