Didn’t you just love “Spiritual Treasures” by President Russell M. Nelson from October 2019 General Conference? My Mom and I had a conversation earlier that week about priesthood power so when President Nelson started to say the same things we were talking about, I was eating it right up. Such an excellent reminder of the priesthood power in our lives regardless of our gender or ordination.

Discussion Ideas
Open up to D&C 25 and study it together. What verses does your class relate to? You can divide the section into groups for discussion or highlight a few verses to discuss together. What can we learn from Emma? Hang a picture of Emma on your board too. How do these verses apply to us right now (including the men)? What can we learn from this section?
Set the scene for the restoration of the priesthood in Harmony, Pennsylvania. Relate the experience then ask the question, “How has what happened in this area affected your life?” You can use the resources and image on the historic Priesthood Restoration site. In what ways in there priesthood power in your home? How can we draw on that power more? How can it help us?
Break out two of the priesthood heavy sections in the D&C, sections 84 and 107. There are so many great verses in these sections that you could highlight and discuss. How are you seeing this priesthood power in your life? What are some other scriptures and talks that we can study about priesthood power? How does studying the priesthood help you as an individual? How can it strengthen those around us?
Focus on the temple. Bring several images of temples to set up around your room. Ask “Why do you like going to the temple? What blessings have you received because of the temple? What power have you noticed in your life because you have attended the temple? Have you found some spiritual treasures? How can we help each other get to the temple?”
Draw a temple on the board (mine always looks like a tall crown) and draw some lines coming from it. As we leave the temple, what comes with us? Because we have that, what else is effected? and so forth. Show how the temple effects our lives and the lives of those around us. How can we support temple building? What can you do to bring a temple to where you are if you don’t have one yet? What else can you do to support the temple near you?
Bring or draw a treasure chest. What are some spiritual treasures from President Nelson’s talk that we can hold on to and act upon? Have people share or prepare some quotes ahead of time to take out of the treasure chest to read and discuss.
Tie in Sister Michelle Craig’s talk “Spiritual Capacity” and how we can increase ours. How can we improve our relationship with the Spirit so we can be guided to what things we need to give up or add into our lives. Have there been some things you have let go of since his talk? What helped you change your focus?
