The G stands for Gunnar.
Elder Renlund did a medical residency at John Hopkins School of Medicine.
He grew up speaking Swedish as his mom was from Sweden and his father was from a Swedish-speaking town in Finland.
When Elder Renlund was 11 years old, his Dad was called to serve as a building missionary in Sweden for three years. He spent time living in Helsinki, Finland, and Gothenburg, Sweden.
He and his brother were called to serve in the Swedish Mission at the same time, however, they were never companions.
Just a few years after he married Ruth Lybbert, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She had two surgeries and nine months of chemotherapy.
While doing his residency and his wife was going through cancer, he also served as bishop.
Elder Renlund was a cardiologist and taught medicine at the University of Utah. He specialized in heart failure and transplants.
He is the 100th person to be called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
He previously served in the presidency of the Africa Southeast Area.
