The F stands for Friedrich.
He was born in Ostrava, Czechoslovakia.
He served as the Second Counselor in the First Presidency from February 2008 to January 2018.
He and his family were refugees- twice! First fleeing from Czechoslovakia to Germany then from East Germany to West Germany.
As a youth, his family couldn’t afford to travel to church together each week. Instead, they took turns going.
He studied engineering in school.
President Uchtdorf served six years in the German Air Force.
He later worked for Lufthansa Airlines, eventually becoming chief pilot and senior vice president of flight operations for Lufthansa.
President Uchtdorf and his wife were sealed in the Bern Switzerland Temple as were their parents and their children.
