He was born in São Paulo, Brazil.
He served a full-time mission in the Brazil Rio de Janeiro Mission.
He was also the mission president of the Portugal Porto Mission.
His parents joined the church when he was six years old.
Elder Soares was determined to pay for his mission. He worked for a company to prepare its payroll during the day and studied accounting at a technical high school in the evenings. After a year, he worked in the company’s accounting department. Each month, for three years, as he saved for his mission, he bought one thing he would need for his mission- pants, a tie, a pair of socks, etc.
The first temple in Latin America was dedicated the year he started to serve his mission. He and his companion traveled 8 hours to the São Paulo Brazil Temple once it was dedicated to receive their endowments. Elder Soares also met his family there and they were sealed together as a family.
Elder Soares first met his wife while serving as her zone leader. They ran into each other again at a multistake dance after their missions.
He has worked as an accountant and auditor for multinational corporations in Brazil.
He also worked in the Church’s finance department and became one of the youngest directors of the Church’s temporal affairs at age 31.
He was a counselor to Elder Dale G. Renlund while serving in the Africa Southeast Area.
He speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish, and French.
